My company is quickly growing and we are looking for a highly qualified first lead engineer to help us move faster with our tech so we can keep up with our growth. SUMMARYAs the first full-time Lead Software Engineer at El Camino, you’ll have the unique opportunity to help us continue building beautiful products and fantastic experiences for our users and customers while also helping to shape El Camino’s broader technical and engineering strategy. You will collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, operations, design, UX/UI, product and will work closely with the founding team.

This is an exciting role for an ambitious, detail-oriented Engineering leader who wants to drive immediate impact.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Development / technical execution:
  • Work with the product team to translate abstract business goals into technical specifications
  • Build and launch features that improve the entire customer journey
  • Improve website personalization and recommendation engine
  • Code new features and products from the ground up
  • Own code deployment process
  • Support with the Improvement of website conversion rate through new features, landing pages, and A/B testing
  • Support customer retention rate by enhancing the user experience on our customer portal
  • Work with product, UX, and design to deliver a high-quality product
  • Generate detailed testing plans for the product team and relevant business leaders
  • Partner with UX, design, and product to define KPIs, user needs, and features to deliver a delightful product
  • Collaborate with external development agencies to execute various business goals and projects
  • Track performance and present pertinent data to founding team
  • Run QA and identify/fix bugs that surface

** Development / technical strategy:**

  • Bring a perspective on development best practices, new technologies, and market trends
  • Assist with building out a broader team of engineers
  • Help build an “engineering culture” that will attract and retain top talent
  • Assess stability and scalability of systems, processes, and tools
  • Monitor technical debt and keep business leaders aware of implications
  • Manage software integrations and external tools
  • Assist in onboarding employees onto internal platforms and tools
  • Run retrospectives with the digital team and present report to founding team

ABOUT YOU:

  • 5+ years of engineering/software development/programming experience
  • You love writing code, but you also enjoy thinking about product and design
  • Keen attention to detail and care about building beautiful products
  • You have some experience working in e-commerce and are familiar with the key KPIs of a DTC brand
  • Experience with both front-end and back-end engineering
  • You have experience using agile methodologies to deliver products and technologies
  • Experience in developing both systems and processes at scale
  • You have experience with some of the following languages, frameworks, and software:
  • Python (Django Framework)
  • JavaScript (VueJS, React, and React Native Frameworks)
  • Ubuntu Linux
  • Heroku and AWS
  • PostgreSQL
  • Excellent communication skills and can facilitate discussions with internal teams, customers, and partners
  • You ask a lot of questions and are constantly looking to improve
  • A self-starter and know how to figure things out without explicit direction
  • You take pride in your work and go above and beyond to get things over the line
  • You have experience working with external engineering teams / partners
