Hi everyone!
I’m exploring ways to network more effectively, and my plan is to connect with team managers to get an inside view of how their teams work, the company culture, and the skills they value—without coming across as someone just hunting for a job.
My goal is to build real, valuable connections. I’m not looking to be directed to a job board or given a canned answer. Instead, I want to start a genuine, curiosity-driven conversation and I’d love to hear how you guys have successfully managed to:
- Build meaningful connections with team managers without it feeling transactional.
- Set up conversations to understand team roles, culture, and organizational goals.
- Make a lasting impression so that, if a role does open up, the manager remembers our conversation.
Questions for the community:
- How do you word your initial message to show you’re genuinely interested in learning and connecting rather than directly asking for a job?
- What types of questions have you found effective in making a good impression in an informational meeting while keeping the focus on learning?
- If you’re open to new opportunities but don’t want to ask directly, what’s your best approach?
Networking isn’t always straightforward, so I’d love to hear your insights, tips, and stories on what’s worked (or hasn’t!) for you.
Thanks in advance for sharing! 😊
