Need advice on growing in the current role

Hi there,

I am a User Experience Designer with an experience of 1.5 years. Its just been 5 months at the current job( Contrating role) and I already feel like I am not being kept in the loop and have no guidance and no one to mentor me. I am a career changer and this is the first role after doing some freelancing projects. I would really appreciate some guidance in order to understand what should I do?? Should I start looking for work elsewhere??

Curious about a couple things- do you think the lack of guidance / mentorship is due to your role? eg. does the company see contractors differently in terms of level of engagement and also how much they feel they have to involve you?- have you shared this feedback back to the team? if so, were they receptive to it and did they work with you to make changes?

I am really not sure about the fact that the company sees contractors differently.. As its been just 4 months.. If you talk about levels of engagement then I guess it is more so because of my manager. he is not really interested in involving me in meeting at all.. So I am working in a silo.Yes, I did share the feedback and have seen no changes.. Also, the work is like minimal and I am not being involved in any major projects thus far.

Ah I'm sorry, it sounds like a problem with no resolution in sight... or at least, no desire in making it better. I would recommend looking elsewhere!

Hi Ankita, Thanks for sharing your experience on here. Sounds like your manager does not value your role, thus is not including you in major projects and has you working in a silo. What is the company size? Is there another department or group you can move into? Sounds like your manager is not interested in working closely with you. Nomatter the reason for this, I believe another job at a company that values your abilities and role would be beneficial to your career growth. I would suggest restarting the job search with an eye out for mentorship and teamwork.
