25% of unworn, returned clothing goes straight to landfill - I'm building a product to change that, come help me!https://www.instagram.com/talkzaratome/
Hiya! Happy Monday, you may remember a survey I sent around a few weeks ago asking about your online shopping experiences and thoughts around customer reviews. Well, the results were clear - finding clothes online that you love is not easy. 49% said that they only find find reviews helpful some of the time and 10% said hardly ever. I think we all know the struggle of navigating unhelpful customer reviews and e-commerce fit guides, most of which don't account for different body types. It’s no surprise then that returns from online purchases are at an all time high which is having a serious effect on our environment; many retailers throw away 25% of their returns. That's 5 billion pounds of unworn clothing going to landfill a year from the US alone. (CNBC, 2019)This is where I want to make my point of impact. I've just launched an Instagram page, @talkzaratome to initially test if women will buy better if they had access to honest, product-specific reviews and could see realistic representations of clothes on ALL bodies. I believe we can reduce purchases overall but especially, ones that end in returns. Equally, this page will provide a space to share how clothes really fit and feel.If you’re wondering...Zara... sustainability? I know. In an ideal world, no one would buy fast-fashion. But the reality is that despite our desire to shop more sustainably, most of us still shop at places like Zara and Asos (largely because we are unwilling to pay more for more sustainable alternatives as reported recently in Vogue Business, 2020). But that doesn't mean we can't start taking steps to lower our impact- just by reducing the amount we return and over time, the amount we buy in general. My goal is to meet women where they are NOW and support their transition to buying better. MY ASK:I am looking for reviewers to review their recent purchases from Zara. The process is super easy and all you have to do is send me a few pictures trying on recent Zara items (either via Instagram DM to @talkzaratome or shoot me a message here!) - I'll follow up with three targeted questions about the fit, sizing and quality that will take no more than 2 minutes to answer....that's it! Review done! It could save an item from landfill or another woman's 'why doesn't this fit?!' meltdown. If you're up for it, give this post a 👍 or send me a message. Also - if you're interested in getting involved in another capacity or hearing more about my bigger vision for how this will translate as a tech product, I'd love to hear from you! Thanks always for your support!Bethany️
