International pen pals for kiddos during the pandemic

I was inspired to write this after a conversation with a vendor in the Philippines. Take with a grain of salt, as I'm not a parent. What I didn't expressly communicate here is that there are services that do exist to facilitate international pen pal exchanges. I originally conceptualized this as an opportunity to do something fun and learn about different cultures through friendships. The criticism I've gotten (and I think is fair) is that this could become just another thing for parents to need to oversee/manage. I actually would love to write a follow up on this with actionable suggestions to parents about how to let the kids use this as unstructured/semistructured social time rather than more online learning.I'd love to hear your thoughts! <3
