In light of the tragic earthquake that took place in Haiti yesterday, here is a good/old write-up that talks about women's status in the country years after the equally terrible earthquake 11 years ago.

"What was left of the women’s movement was excluded from participating in the assessment process following the earthquake.  Both the international community and the Haitian government have been criticized for failing to take the gendered effects of natural disasters into account when responding to the earthquake, and for ignoring Haitian women’s particular needs post-disaster".
