Many tech leaders think that once they've hired some candidates from diverse backgrounds, their job is done. With that attitude, the team won't gel and turnover will be high, which is bad for retention in the industry as a whole, because some may decide to switch career paths entirely after one bad experience on a team.

There are many different things a leader needs to do to support a diverse team, and one of them is recognizing and encouraging the diverse ways their teammates contribute to the overall effort. This is suprisingly hard to do, because we are all human and humans are inherently biased.
