Outsourcing experience
Software dev can be super challenging for startups because getting local engineers are hard & expensive - not to mention female CTOs may have a harder time finding good loyal crews unless they're veterans (successful exit/stint) and well-known. I've been really thankful for the open marketplaces such as Fiverr and Upwork. My experience so far has been great - knowing what to outsource is definitely helpful too. We stick to smaller functions and never give them the full access to codebase - I will then integrate the finished codes myself. How is your experience? Is there any other marketplace that works well for you?
So far we've contracted with an Elpha member and had a great experience. Interesting to hear how you've approached working with contractors. What kind of project are you working on? It seems super hard to build a web app for example and not provide the code base for context and testing.
Hi Cadran. I am trying to understand your comment- “ seems super hard to build a web app for example and not provide the code base for context and testing.”. Does this mean that the contractor has/knows the code and so everything that must be done should ideally be done through the original team? Thank you.
hi! @fannysurjana was saying she doesn't share her full codebase with contractors she works with because she builds microservices that are independent from each other. Which means a contractor would come onto the project and not have context about how other microservices work.
Thank you.
Oh interesting... I will definitely try that next time :) We're working on a web app and since we opt to have multiple microservices, they can be develop & tested independently. Yes, there is a catch... when integrating back to the main portal app, an integration testing is needed.
Hi Fanny. Can you recommend a WordPress expert? I have content but would like assistance moving the content from GoDaddy to Blue Host using WordPress. Thanks! Ellen
