Unlocking change with ethical and inclusive designhttps://patriciagestoso.com/2020/07/05/unlocking-change-with-ethical-and-inclusive-design
Today, 26th July, itโs the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).In this article (originally published on the UX Collective e-magazine), I share how my journey into inclusive design was prompted by embarrassment, fear, and impatience. It doesnโt need to be that way for you. We can all start taking action towards a more inclusive and ethical design of products and services.Or will you leave it to others to design an inclusive and ethical future for you?
WOW, @PatriciaGestoso. That really is all I have to say. Just wow. I'm going to share your Ethics & Inclusion framework with members of my team for us to incorporate into our project-scoping/management processes. Excited to build on my own personal activism and deepen my commitment to ethical and inclusive ways of being. Grateful for your work on this.
@rachelclifton thanks so much for this positive feedback. You 're comment has touched me deeply. This is exactly why I created the Ethics and Inclusion Framework!I'd love to collaborate on that journey, if that can be of help. Happy to chat/email on the progress and also how the tool can be improved. Thanks again for brightening my weekend!
@PatriciaGestoso, the feeling is very much mutual - thank you for brightening mine! Please feel free to shoot me an email via [email protected]. Would love to chat further, whether by email or the old-fashioned way. Looking forward :)

Thank you for sharing this, @PatriciaGestoso, and for not putting this behind some sort of paywall/email capture. I always appreciate open sharing (I try to do the same) and this is a fantastic resource.
Many thanks @beccawilliams for the great feedback. I also have other free resources- Systems map of the Factors Accounting for the Low Representation of Women in Leadership Positions in Tech Companies, which explores the dynamic โforcesโ that make this problem worse and also those that mitigate it. The systems map identifies 11 crucial forces that worsen/alleviate this problem. https://patriciagestoso.com/systems-map-The Fair Care Tracker is a free tool that facilitates caregivers to (a) record the unpaid work they perform, (b) assess the value they get in return, (c) reflect on the skills they develop, and (d) quantify the uncollected revenue. https://patriciagestoso.com/fair-care-tracker/Don't hesitate to let me know if I can be of help.
@PatriciaGestoso This is one of the most heartfelt and thorough overview of inclusivity, I've read in awhile. Your transparency and truth is appreciated. Thank you for sharing this with the Elpha community.
@marierokerjones your feedback means a lot, specially with you extensive background in DEI. Many thanks.
