As engineering leadership, how do we balance engineer initiatives and constraints to make the ideal business impact?https://medium.com/octane-blog/free-range-fridays-a4924f03762f

I wanted to share a successful experiment my team has been running that has contributed significantly to our data engineers' happiness and career growth. It's called Free-Range Fridays.

I'm seeking any feedback, questions, claps, and shares! Would love to learn what has/has not worked for y'all.

My company, Octane, is a fintech startup in a high-growth stage and I am currently the Engineering Manager for the Data Engineering team.

Awesome! Giving people space and autonomy to try and "play" with new tools and technologies is always a good idea, even more in an engineering team. This way you keep people engaged and curious and you gather ideas and suggestions for improving the process and the product.I love the fact that all roles are invited to participate and collaborate. I worked in a team where we had a "Free-Range" week every quarter so people have time to build small projects. Maybe this is something you might want to try next!
This is a great idea. Thanks for sharing it. I always find that it’s important to explore tools and techniques. However, the lack of time is always an issue. Scheduling that and being flexible with it is great.
