[Career Promotion Myth #10] If I say yes to everything, I’ll get promotedhttps://patriciagestoso.com/career-promotion-breakthrough-2023/

Maybe… but chances are that you’ll burn out too!

There is plenty of research on the fact that women need to be both likeable and competent to raise to board and CXO levels.

So, even when you are not conscious of this fact, you may know it “in your gut”. What’s more, people around you will reinforce that belief. For example

- Expecting you to be the “feelings doula” of the group: Burden you with their personal problems because “as a woman” you are supposed to always be available to lend a compassionate ear.

- Be the group personal assistant: Need to order catering? Organize the birthday cake?

- Be understanding when you’re passed over for a promotion.

If you’ve been struggling to get a promotion for some time, it’s easy to question yourself and focus on “what else should you be doing?” rather than “what should you stop doing?”

[Back to you] What’s the one thing you will stop doing this week in order to get a career promotion?
