Digital networking - approach tips

Hey hey!

I am about to tidy up my LinkedIn and other digital networks and set a target to find new connections weekly. I am currently exploring the tech industry for upskilling opportunities, and maybe even a new job evenutally.

I am interested in advice on what words/ sentences/ templates do you use to approach a new professional you'd like connecting with (digitally)? Do you always use the same method or do you just write up a new intro and paragraph each time?

Happy to also get advice on in person networking tips :)

Many thanks!

Love this for you! I write up a new intro every time. I like to mention some connection we have. For example, if we went to the same college, I'll say something like "Hey, I see we both went to Northwest! How have you been since graduation?" and that can lead to a conversation. Or if they have a similar job title to you something like "Great to connect! I see we're both ___. What made you drawn to that?"
@ErikaTonhauser I recommend "Authenticity" above all else. Be polite, of course. Offer to help them in turn and share what you may be able to help with, educate about, or connect someone to as you seek that same support. Realize that people are busy and offer them some Grace if they are slow to respond, or do not respond at all. Pressures, deadlines, and @ErikaTonhauser I recommend "Authenticity" above all else. you are like a resource encyclopedia.
i will absolutely take this as compliment haha!
I find that a lot of folks are willing to have a conversation if you just ask. I used to approach leaders in the community all the time to understand more about their journey + how I could learn from it. Keep it simple + don't overcomplicate it. Just ask for what you want.
