How to find/get a Web Development Internship?https://www.linkedin.com/in/jessica-gertig-cooper/
As I am sure most of you know, the job hunt is exhausting, and for many people, (ME!!!) demoralizing. I'm a non-traditional career changer in her late 30s. I think I have less confidence in myself now than I did 6 months ago.I have been thinking perhaps I could find entry into a web development career through an internship or apprenticeship. I have little to no professional experience, and I would be perfectly happy to work for a lower wage (no wage for a few weeks even!) on a contract basis to gain experience, but I find most companies advertising internships require the applicant to be part of a university program. I attended Lambda School (an excellent program, which includes computer science and teamwork, but technically a 'bootcamp') and received my certificate. I have examples of work I've done, but I admit I've been an abysmal networker - at least professionally.I have no idea what companies have the 'bandwidth' for mentoring interns or even just a junior engineer who will be a good investment! I know it's a risk for companies to invest in such employees, only to have them move on just when they are starting to contribute well to the team. Does anyone have any advice or know of any specific companies that have more resources (but are not basically impenetrable when it comes to communicating with them!) and might be interested in bringing on someone like me?I just want to get to work!!! (If anyone wants to know more about what kind of tech stack I work with, or could work with, feel free to ask me here or to DM me!)
Hi Jessica, Sorry to hear about your struggles. I'm the founder of an early-stage start-up, I don't have any funding to onboard a paid intern or employee, but I'd be happy to welcome you to the company for a couple of weeks if it can help you with your career. Do shoot me an email so we can chat and see whether this would be something you would be interested in: [email protected].
