Transitioning to digital marketing from higher education
Greetings!I am seeking advice and or suggestions on transitioning from higher ed (program coordinator) to ditial marketing. I'm currently taking a few courses in marketing to better educate myself to the field, and I've just completed the Google Analytics certification. With my technology, sales and customer service skills, I'd like to apply to a position higher than a coordinator. Thank you very much for your time.
Hi Karla! I made the jump from higher ed to digital marketing (specifically, design and branding) myself last year. My ticket to success was to leverage all of my contacts in non-higher ed industries and ask them for referrals to any marketing-adjacent open positions within their companies. With referrals in place, I scored some interviews and eventually landed a job in "hybrid role" type positions - ones that blended skills I already had with the skills I wanted to specialize in. I'd do a deep dive into your contacts and your linkedin connections and put the word out there that you're looking to make a jump. Now is the time to be networking with your contacts while they are (at least on the surface) more available than ever for virtual meetings due to mandatory WFH/travel bans. Best of luck!
