Somewhere in cyberspace, there are literally thousands of earlier (and bad!) versions of my resume floating around out there.
That’s because I practiced the “spray and pray” method of applying to jobs.
If you don’t know what that is, it’s (somewhat desperately) throwing your resume at every open posting out there, regardless of how well it fits the job description.
I would apply again and again, over and over. I must have filled out my name and address literally hundreds if not thousands of times.
I was tired of getting rejected over and over again. Until one day, SOMETHING LANDED.
I got an interview and I got a job.
The reason for this is simple:
1. I didn’t give up. You have to realize that every NO is closer to a YES, and you can’t take things personally. Whether you get called for an interview is simply INFORMATION.
2. I got clear on what my skills were and what the market needed, and gradually improved how I was positioning myself as I learned more.
THAT’S IT!
So if you’re discouraged sending out application after application, take heart. You aren’t FAILING, you are LEARNING.
Treat rejection like information and use it to improve your positioning.
Get clear on your skills and strengths and align that with what the market needs.
When you do this, you become UNSTOPPABLE, and landing a role is only a matter of time.
This is what I teach in my 1:1 coaching program, From Overlooked to Highly Paid.
You will learn:
- Why being the right fit for a role is more important than impressive qualifications or a good school (so you can land the job of your dreams even if you don’t have an Ivy league school on your resume)
- How to read between the lines of job descriptions and use them to make your positioning bulletproof (so what you say stands out and lands you an interview)
- To get clear on what your skills and strengths are and bring those front and center (so you feel confident and clear when interviewing, which significantly improves your chances of landing your dream job)
