Hello ladies from Elpha!
Today I'm really excited to share Polygloss with you! I've been working on it for a couple of years now and I finally just published it on the app store!!
Polygloss is very unique language learning app, because it focuses on what people learning a language actually want and struggle with most: communicating with others.
I'm a Software Engineer with ~15 years experience, I started it as a solo founder for a while, having had help along the way more recently, and hired my first dev intern two weeks ago! I'm also a polyglot and have moved a lot between countries (Brazil, France, Germany, UK, and now I'm in Spain). I learned a lot about learning languages along the way!
I created Polygloss to solve my own difficulties when learning German: despite studying it for years, and being able to read books and watch series, I still could not speak well and froze when I needed to communicate.
Polygloss is an image guessing game, so you play fast matches with other people and write your own simple original sentences with the purpose of communicating to your opponent which is the correct image. That means it's a lot easier and less stressful than joining a full conversation with someone, but it is also a lot more challenging than translating, reordering, or filling the gaps on random sentences that have no particular meaning to you. It's ideal for intermediate level learners, and the perfect bridge between duolingo and tandem apps.
For now, you can only use the app in writing mode, but speaking mode will come in the future and I have many other cool ideas in our Roadmap.
If you want to try it out, you can download the app for Android or iOS here: https://polygloss.app
(yes our landing page is quite raw and simple for now, but we still have around 50-90 daily users! (the android app was published quite a while before the current iOS launch))
The app can be used totally for free, there is a subscription for some extra features though!
I would love to hear your feedback 💖
