It's none of your business!https://www.writechoiceresumes.com

Yesterday I had a discussion with a single mom (newly divorced) who said that potential employers judge and assume that a woman would be too frazzled to do the job. I said, "Don't tell them about your personal/family life. It's none of their business."

She started to tell me about the ways they disguise questions to ferret out the information.

What hobbies do you have? (Single moms generally don't have time for hobbies)

What would a great work/life balance look like for you?

In a crisis situation, how available are you to come into work at a moment's notice?

Ladies, what kinds of questions have you been asked? Also, if they ask about your marital/family status, how do you answer?

Are men EVER asked these questions?

Would love to hear!

Learning what to share and what to keep to myself in an interview setting was a toughie - I wanted them to get to know me, but not judge me. It took lots of practice to learn, but you said it "it's none of their business." I've been asked about my hobbies, what I like to do outside of work, what a saturday would look like. I've learned how to give enough info to keep the conversation going without giving too much away
